Microsoft did lend credence to the fact that front facing camera support will be officially included in the upcoming Windows Phone Mango update at the Microsoft Tech Ed in New Zealand. And a a Microsoft staff member confirmed this at Microsoft Tech Ed, plus an incoming tweet from Windows Phone NZ has also confirmed this news. While Windows Phone Mango devices are few and far in between, only one has been caught in the wild. With this latest news update, it does seem as though the majority of Windows Phone Mango (or Windows Phone 7.5 as some call it) hardware will ship with a front facing camera of sorts.
Of course, it was reported earlier this year back in January in fact that Microsoft was already working on a FaceTime competitor for their mobile operating system, with references in the SDK pointing towards a “portrait camera.” Not only that, Microsoft also scooped up Skype in their portfolio recently, which means video calls over the handset will be reality. Add to the fact that Windows Phone Mango will also support Internet sharing, and you are in for an extremely exciting time.
